Starr offers a variety of community-based and in-home programs for children and families. Community-based programs serve as prevention and early intervention measures aimed at helping children and families flourish.

Starr offers community-based programs out of its locations in Battle Creek and Detroit, MI.

Battle Creek

Intensive In-Home Mental Health — This program is for both boys and girls in the Battle Creek area, ages 4-17, who are referred by Summit Pointe. It provides in-home family and individual therapies, group therapy and supports coordination with other community services for families with a child who has an emotional impairment.

Detroit

Youth Assistance Program — YAP works to help youth, ages 7-17, build confidence, self-esteem and boost academic performance. Understanding negative peer interactions, social issues, family issues, pressure to engage in premature sexual activity, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, truancy from school and/or home, domestic violence and other violent behaviors is also addressed.

Outcomes

Battle Creek Community-Based Programs

In our recent annual satisfaction survey period, reflecting the 2015-2016 fiscal year, the following outcomes were shown:

  • 95% of youth have not had an out-of-home placement 1 year after release from program
  • 72% are attending school 1 year after release from program
  • 95% are living at home with their family 1 year after release from program
  • 90% have not gone to an emergency room for a mental health crisis 1 year after release from program

Treatment Quality

  • Youth rate the ‘overall quality of services’ for Battle Creek services 4.37 at discharge, with 5 meaning ‘excellent
  • Parents rate the ‘overall quality of services’ for Battle Creek services 4.25 at discharge, with 5 meaning ‘excellent

Detroit Community-Based Programs

In our recent annual satisfaction survey period, reflecting the 2015-2016 fiscal year, the following outcomes were shown:

  • 86.5% of clients are employed or in school 6-months after discharge
  • 81% of teenaged clients have not had any charges 12-months after discharge
  • 89% of clients did not experience removal from family or have a family disruption 12-months after discharge
  • 70% of teenaged clients reported no substance use 12-months after discharge
