PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) is an act that was passed unanimously in 2003, and was designed to “provide for the analysis of the incidence and effects of prison rape in Federal, State, and local institutions and to provide information, resources, recommendations and funding to protect individuals from prison rape” (Prison Rape Elimination Act, 2003). Each year, residential programs must be evaluated by the National Prison Rape Elimination Commission to ensure that standards are being met. Starr and Sequel Youth Services do not tolerate instances of sexual assault or rape, and will cooperate with our yearly investigation. Keeping the children in our care safe is of the utmost priority. Visit the PREA website for more information on their standards and evaluation system.
