Mary Hayek, MEd, LMSW has supported children, families and adults for over 40 years. Mary has incorporated parent education strategies and an expertise in addressing grief and loss in her approach to trauma work. She is a firm believer that our personal experience with parenting, loss, and trauma can help us relate to and assist those with similar experiences in a therapeutic way. Training provided by the Love and Logic Institute in Denver, Colorado in effective parenting strategies and by the Grief Recovery Institute in Sherman Oaks, California allowed her to integrate effective parenting strategies that provide a sense of safety and healthy control for children experiencing loss. Mary expanded her expertise to include training in trauma and trauma intervention from the TLC Institute, receiving the Trauma Specialist of the Year award in 2009. Mary has continued in the field of trauma and loss, providing individual therapy and group sessions with children and adults, in school and private settings, as well as becoming a trainer for SGLN.
In 2013 Mary developed the TLC trauma program for adults, “Adults and Parents in Trauma,” based on the realization that many times children of trauma are living or being taught in schools by adults in trauma. In addition, this program came our of the many adults seen in her private practice who were involved in the legal system, including jail/prison, and protective services, as a result of drug use, alcohol use, and abuse/neglect of their children, behavior which was usually related to unaddressed traumatic experiences. This program has gone on to be used in a variety of settings, including in prison and jail systems.
