Starr Detroit
Supervised Independent Living (SIL)
SIL is a service provided to children between the ages of 16-20 under a contract with the Department of Human Services. The goal is to help children make the transition to independence which includes addressing the areas of education, employment, and housing. All SIL students must live in non-residential, community-based placement approved by the referring CMO or FIA representative.
Supervised Transitional Living (STL)
A transitional living program for youth, ages 16-20. Provides residence while preparing youth for future independence through weekly individual meetings with a counselor assisting with career planning, budgeting and independent living skills.
Treatment Foster Care
Treatment Foster Care is for children between the ages of 0-18 who have been removed from their families because of abuse or neglect. Whether children are temporary or permanent wards of the state, county or court, placement counselors make sure children have secure places with caring foster parents.
The end goal is to reunite families whenever possible, but if not, Starr supervises children through to permanent placement. The key to success is doing more than placement. Starr works with families to change values, and works with kids to repair the damages from abuse and neglect.
Residential Transition and Reintegration Support (RTRS)
RTRS is a non-secure program for 12-18 year-old adjudicated males. The program provides intensive therapy to address committing offense, victim empathy and problem solving skills.
This strength-based, peer-group program helps young people address their offenses. Skilled counselors work with them to acquire rewarding life skills, an understanding of their emotions, and the ability to build more positive social relationships.
Substance Abuse
This program is designed to meet the social, emotional, educational and spiritual needs of boys between the ages of 12 – 18 years of age who present substance abuse issues in their homes, schools and community. Youth placed in the residential substance abuse program have experienced court involvement, are adjudicated delinquents, and require a higher level of structure and security than most community-based programs can adequately provide. Our community-based substance abuse program provides intensive therapy to address the committing offense, victim therapy, problem solving and substance abuse issues.
The primary goal of treatment is to help the youth address issues related to their substance abuse by building upon and redirecting their strengths into constructive behaviors, to learn how to cope successfully with life’s challenges, to be responsible for their actions and to successfully re-enter or remain in their homes, schools and communities.
Starr Commonwealth Substance Abuse Treatment Program offers traditional group, family and individual counseling along with the ability to directly link youth successfully completing the residential phase of treatment with the community-based equivalent upon return to the community.
