You know how vital a good education is to a person realizing his or her potential. It is fundamental to unleashing the genius in every child.
Unfortunately, too many children in our communities are not getting that education. In addition to the gaps in the education system, which limit access to quality educational services, the challenges faced by children outside of school are too often neglected.
Join us in closing that gap, making a quality education a reality for students supported by Starr.
Half of all lifetime mental health disorders begin before the age of 14, and more than 20 percent of children aged 9-17 have a diagnosable mental or addictive disorder that impairs their development in some way.
Across all of its educational programs, Starr strives to go beyond the classroom, helping children flourish in their communities. Recognizing that many children enter the learning environment with a significant weight on both their shoulders and their minds, we aim to meet the emotional, developmental and physical needs of each individual child.
This approach greatly increases the readiness of children to not only learn, but to develop and be inspired. It helps them to enjoy their education and those precious early years of their life.
The initial spark of inspiration in a student can be magical. It may be the first time they think to themselves “I will graduate high school and go to college.”
That’s why Starr needs your help.
Our holistic approach to education can be seen every day. At Starr Detroit Academy, near the east side of Detroit, over 500 K-5 students are benefitting from a warm, supportive learning environment. In our programs across Michigan and Ohio, we support children with behavioral, emotional and neurological challenges to build on their own unique strengths and learn in a way that respects their needs.
Montcalm School in Albion, Mich., for example, is a leading therapeutic boarding school, with young people from across the U.S. and the world benefitting from Starr’s commitment to serve the needs of each individual.
