Starr Van Wert

When Floyd Starr wanted to expand the mission of Starr Commonwealth back in 1951, he found a special place for Starr Van Wert.  He knew it would be as good for growing boys, as the surrounding prairie was for growing grass.  The property, known as the Auglaise Gardens, was purchased from Harry Beckmann, the Midwest's "Peony King."  Mr. Beckmann's former home on the grounds now serves as our chapel, Beckmann Hall.
