Is your school interested in preparing educators to work effectively with all of its students? Even those who are considered your most resistant? Defiant? Troubled? Then you have come to the right place.
After almost 100 years of helping troubled kids find their place in the world, Starr Commonwealth created No Disposable Kids®, a bold initiative consisting of training experiences offered in a number of formats to accommodate your school's limited number of days allotted to professional development. We've all been there. A minor incident at school suddenly takes on a life of its own, escalating into a major school-wide crisis. And all too often, well-meaning adults are right in the middle of it. Why does it happen? How do we adults become part of the solution?
Start getting answers by learning more about No Disposable Kids® trainings. These training sessions tackle the epidemic problems of bullying, racism, school violence, dropouts and poor academic performance. Our training programs provide immediate useful skills for adults to successfully work with almost any adult/child conflict.
Glasswing trainings offer a different way of looking at others, ourselves and the world. Glasswing offers a two-day Healing of Racism seminar in which participants are guided through a transformation of their hearts and minds and how we relate to one another as members of the human family. The Healing of Racism process can only exist in an atmosphere of trust and respect (for self and others). Safety for participants is a cornerstone of this seminar.
Many participants describe the Glasswing experience as life altering. Glasswing also offers a 5-day Certification Training for Facilitators of the 2-day sessions. Glasswing facilitators are well trained, highly respected and exceptional at what they do. Our 5-day sessions are intense and carefully structured to make the most of every minute. We encourage trainers to work together in teams of two or three, creating the chemistry needed to successfully co-facilitate their own Glasswing seminars.
Our training for group care professionals help organizations develop powerful treatment environments that produce outstanding results! It is based upon Starr Commonwealth's time-tested philosophy that "there's no such thing as a bad child." Those bold words, spoken by Floyd Starr nearly a century ago, serve as the foundational belief conveyed in all Starr Commonwealth training sessions.
To be effective, youth care workers must view all troubled youth as "resources." To enlist children in the process of problem-solving and developing "social interest," children must be treated with dignity and respect - and staff need to really believe in each youth's ability to become a force for change! Whether it's helping staff to effectively work with crisis, or grounding staff in productive, research-based practices that build exceptional group cultures, Starr Commonwealth can help. Let us help you build a customized training program for your organization!
